Frequently Asked Questions
We have all experienced the “hoon” that has flown up our backside, tail-gated us, cut in front of us or zigzagged down the road at high speeds, only to end up at the same set of lights next to us. This is because they don’t understand the pre-emptive techniques of driving that can get you to your destination efficiently and most importantly, safely.
What will I learn in the Pre-emptive (Defensive) Course?
The Pre-emptive (Defensive) course is a ONE DAY certified course that entails a mixture of PowerPoint lectures, video presentations, demonstrations and numerous in-car driving experiences to maximise your driving skills and road safety awareness.
This courses includes such things like:
- ROAD LAW AND DEALING WITH HAZARDS.
- DRIVER ATTITUDE AND BEHAVIOUR, RISK TAKING & PEER INFLUENCES.
- CONTRIBUTING FACTORS IN CRASHES (THE REAL FATAL 5).
- VEHICLE TECHNOLOGY (ABS, SRS, ESP, DSC & TC).
- WET WEATHER AND DIRT ROAD DRIVING.
- PRE EMPTIVE AND SAFE DRIVING TECHNIQUES.
- VEHICLE MAINTENANCE, TYRE SELECTION CARE AND PRESSURES.
- VEHICLE STOPPING DISTANCES.
- SKID PREVENTION AND EMERGENCY BRAKING.
You will complete the day feeling safer and ‘wiser’ about both your own car and your abilities. This course does not promote over-confidence. Instead, ensuring drivers are fully equip with the right information for good decision-making on our roads, in a safe and pre-emptive manner.
Who can attend the course?
Anyone on either a P plate or full licence will benefit from our Defensive Driving course. As it is an off road course we can have Learner drivers attend, but they do need to be almost ready to complete their hours in their logbook to ensure they have the appropriate driving skills to handle the driving tasks of this highly productive day of training. There are some theory components, but we have designed the course to be able to have as much ín car’practice to ensure you are ready to avoid any incidents you find out on the road.
Why attend the course?
Unfortunately, the longer we go without having an accident, the better driver we think we are! Psychologically we are built to think that from the point we pass our provisional test that we are then qualified to knowing everything about driving, and as a result we drive with this over-confident attitude and inattention – the largest contributing factors to accidents. This course will identify the personal skills you require, beyond ‘just driving’ to ensure that you reduce the risks and costs of accidents and injury on our roads, to make it safer for you, and everyone around you. We believe that you can be “cool” and a safe driver, with the right information and practice.
How many people per course?
To allow the most personalised training, each session is limited to a maximum of 15 drivers.
When are courses conducted?
Most courses are held on Saturdays or Sundays and some Public Holidays. New dates can be formed for group bookings. Once booked in, a booking confirmation with attendance details will be emailed to you.
*Course will be rescheduled if minimum participant numbers are not reached. If you have a group you would like to book, we can arranged specialised dates and training to suit your needs.
Do I use my own car?
Yes, your vehicle must be registered and road worthy, with at least half a tank of fuel for the day. All free and loose objects are to be removed from the vehicle to ensure safety. Tyres must be of road-worthy condition. None of the driving exercises we do will put excess wear on your vehicle. If required we can provide a quote to supply either a single car or all the vehicles used for the course, if required.
Are the cars insured during the course?
Some insurance companies cover clients cars, some don’t and some even discount insurance for driver attending such courses. If asked, please inform your insurance company that the training is not done on racing circuits, there are no speed events or racing and maximum speeds are less than 80km/hr. Remember you are attending to improve your driving, your insurance company should support this as they will ultimately benefit from you being a better driver.
How do I get to the venue?
Individuals must make their own transport arrangements. A map and attendance details will be sent to you.
